He has published nine books of poetry and many pamphlet collections, the majority of them since he was sixty. He lived for over thirty years in a remote cottage near the Wanney Crags, in the part of Northumberland associated with the ballad-writer James Armstrong, author of Wild Hills O’Wannys.
